DAY 01: EXPLORING AHMEDABAD

While we have already seen the Dinosaur fossils and eggs at the Fossil Park in Gandhinagar, on day two of our Gujarat holiday, we head out to Balasinor, to take a look at the actual site from where these fossils were excavated. It is located at a distance of about 88 KM from Ahmedabad, so the drive takes about an hour and a half.

Balasinor Fossil Park feels a bit like Jurassic Park, with fossils of as many as 13 species of dinosaurs found here. These were first discovered in 1980, and excavations and researches over the years have concluded that this site is home to the second largest dinosaur hatchery in the world.

This is quite an experience, and it’s sure to leave you feeling exhilarated. After having explored the area completely, we head back to Ahmedabad.

EXPLORING GUJARAT WITH STATUE OF UNITY AND DINOSAUR FOSSIL PARK

4 Nights / 5 Days (Land Only)

* Terms & Conditions apply

With an area of 196,024 sqkm, Gujarat is the fifth largest state in India, and its history can be traced back to as early as the Stone Age. Over the centuries and decades, Gujarat has been ruled by different empires such as Nanda, Maurya, Gupta and even Chaulukaya, Mughal, Maratha and the East India Company, in addition to the Delhi and Gujarat Sultanates. The city of Ahmedabad gets its name from the Sultan Ahmad Shah, who ruled the region from 1411 to 1442 AD and established Ahmedabad as the capital.

While the state is well known for its folk dance, music, culture, heritage and architecture, another notable aspect of the state is its history. From being home to freedom fighters Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, to being the second largest dinosaur hatchery in the world, Gujarat offers enough and more to visitors looking to experience something different.

EXPLORING GUJARAT WITH STATUE OF UNITY AND DINOSAUR FOSSIL PARK

If you are looking for unique travel experiences, the state of Gujarat is just the place to be. With this Gujarat package we explore the newly constructed Statue of Unity and the Dinosaur Fossil Park, both easily accessible from Ahmedabad as well as Vadodara.

Statue of Unity, at 597 feet, is the tallest statue in the world, and it was inaugurated on October 31, 2018, a day that marked the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, in whose memory and honour it has been built. It is situated on the banks of the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River. It is approximately 100 KM from the city of Vadodara and is easily accessible by road.

On this holiday to Gujarat we also explore the cities of Ahmedabad and Vadodara, witnessing not just the historical structures but also the modern developments. We pay a visit to the Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park in the state capital Gandhinagar, as well as the excavation site in Balasinor. This trip is full of surprises and new experiences.

DAY 03: STATUE OF UNITY

Day three of our holiday in Gujarat takes us to witness the tallest statue in the world, the Statue of Unity. It is located at a distance of approximately 200 KM from Ahmedabad, and about 90 KM from Vadodara. We have breakfast at our hotel in Ahmedabad and then leave for our destination; the drive will take about four hours.

Statue of Unity is a 597 feet high statue, built in the memory of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of Independent India. He was instrumental in uniting over 550 princely states and bringing them together to form the single Union of India. This statue celebrates and honours this great statesman.

Situated in Kevadiya Colony, on a river island named Sadhu Bet, the Statue of Unity stands facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River, making for an absolutely picturesque sight. It was inaugurated in 2018 on the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, on October 31. The statue and its surrounding areas are an attractive tourist spot, already witnessing thousands of visitors on a daily basis.

After spending the day marvelling at the grandeur and splendour of the tallest statue in the world, we head to Vadodara, an hour and half drive from the Statue of Unity. Once there, we check in to the hotel for an overnight stay.

DAY 04: EXPLORING VADODARA

Today we explore another major city of Gujarat, Vadodara, which is the third largest city in the state. It is well known as a cultural, industrial and educational hub, and is home to Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, the largest University in the state of Gujarat.

There is a lot to see and explore in Vadodara, or Baroda, as it was previously called. The most prominent place being the Lakshmi Vilas Palace, built in 1890 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, was the residence of the Maratha Royal family of the city, the Gaekwads. The city has a rich history and has seen the rule of various empires like the Gupta, Chaulukya, Delhi Sultanate and even the Mughals. That has resulted in spectacular architecture, and that is one of the reasons why Vadodara is called the cultural capital of Gujarat.

The places that we visit during the day, in addition to the Lakshmi Vilas Palace, are the Sayaji Gardens, Vadodara Museum and Picture Gallery and Sri Swaminarayan Mandir. After spending the day exploring the city, we return to the hotel to catch a good night’s sleep.

DAY 05: DEPARTURE

Today our holiday to Gujarat comes to an end as we leave for Ahmedabad. Once in the city we head towards the airport to catch our flights for the return journey.

We arrive in Ahmedabad on the first day of our Gujarat Trip. We proceed towards the hotel and after completing the check-in formalities, we head out to explore Ahmedabad as well as the neighbouring Gandhinagar, which is also the state capital.

Our first stop for the day is the Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park located in Gandhinagar. This park contains the fossilised remains of dinosaurs along with petrified eggs. These fossils and eggs were originally found at the site in Raiyoli in Balasinor, about 2 hours away from the park. It was set up by the Geological Survey of India and is the only dinosaur museum in India.

After such a fantastical encounter, we head back to Ahmedabad to pay a visit to the very famous Gandhi Ashram, also known as Sabarmati Ashram. It lies on the banks of the Sabarmati River and tells the story of many significant periods from history associated with Gandhiji and the freedom movement. After this we proceed towards Kankaria, the second largest lake in the city. Built in 1451, this lake is quite popular among travellers, and is great to spend an evening at.

After such an eventful day we head back to our hotel for an overnight stay.
